Texas REALTORS®, including the Legal Hotline, will close early on Friday, August 30 at 3:00 to get an early start on the Labor Day weekend and will be closed all day on Monday. We wish everyone the best for a fun, safe and healthy holiday weekend.

Fun Fact: Did you know that Labor Day, which celebrates the contributions of workers, was first proposed as a national holiday by labor unions in the 1880s? The first Labor Day parade was held in New York City on September 5, 1882, and it wasn't just a day off. Workers actually had to forgo a day's wages to participate in the march. The idea quickly gained traction, and by 1894, President Grover Cleveland signed it into law.

Interestingly, the choice of the first Monday in September was strategic—it gave workers a holiday midway between Independence Day and Thanksgiving, creating a much-needed break during the long stretch of late summer. So, not only does Labor Day honor the hard work of American laborers, but it also provides a well-timed respite in the year's calendar!
