Texas REALTORS® is proud to celebrate love, diversity and acceptance during Pride Month, a designation for the month of June acknowledging the positive impact of the LGBTQ+ community on our world and many cultures within in. The recognition offers us the opportunity to reflect on the diversity of thought and life experiences of our team members that make us stronger and better - an opportunity we should take advantage of throughout the year. After all, one of Texas REALTORS® Core Values is "Respect: We value all people and ideas. We treat each other in a professional and respectful manner."
Keep an eye out for Texas REALTORS® Pride Month Explainer Decks which will explain gender identity and personal pronouns later in the month. These decks have been developed in collaboration with the National Association of Gay and Lesbian Real Estate Professionals and the LGBTQ+ Real Estate Alliance. The Explainer Deck social media series is an initiative led by the Global, Commercial & Diversity Department to raise awareness and empower our members to be agents of positive change.
Did you know: "Pride Month is celebrated annually in June to honor the 1969 Stonewall riots, and works to achieve equal justice and equal opportunity for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (LGBTQ) Americans. In June of 1969, patrons and supporters of the Stonewall Inn in New York City staged an uprising to resist the police harassment and persecution to which LGBT Americans were commonly subjected. This uprising marks the beginning of a movement to outlaw discriminatory laws and practices against LGBT Americans." (Source: youth.gov)
