NAR Installs New 2024 President

Many of you heard last week of the resignation of then-NAR President Tracy Kasper. Kasper began her role of President following the resignation of the previous NAR President on August 28 of last year.

Following Kasper's resignation, President-Elect Kevin Sears of Springfield, Massachusetts was sworn in as President. Sears is a broker/partner at Sears Real Estate in Springfield, Mass. Throughout his decades in the industry, Sears held a variety of association leadership roles before rising to president of NAR. That includes 16 years on NAR's board of directors and 23 years as a federal political coordinator. In 2010 he also served as president of the Massachusetts Association of Realtors.

Shortly after assuming the role, Sears delivered this video message to members. Sears spent much of the two-minute video discussing the importance of "furthering the business of the association," noting that legal, business and advocacy challenges take top priority.

Sears, discussing the Sitzer/Burnett decision, acknowledged its significance and the implications for members, brokerages, associations, and consumers. NAR's leadership is committed to developing an effective strategy moving forward. In terms of advocacy, Sears emphasized NAR's lobbying efforts across national, state, and local levels, underlining the association's commitment to promoting pro-consumer and pro-competitive values, particularly in response to lawsuits alleging anti-competitive practices.

Additionally, Sears commended Interim CEO Nykia Wright for her strong leadership following the early resignation of former CEO Bob Goldberg. Goldberg had planned to retire at the end of 2024 but stepped down in November shortly after the jury verdict in the Sitzer/Burnett trial. Wright's leadership is seen as crucial in adapting and maintaining the core operations of the association during these challenging times.
